Carousel Antique Center opened in July 2000 as a large multi-dealer shop offering a wide range of merchandise reflecting different personalities and price ranges. You may find our primitive pie safe filled with 20th Century art glass or our shabby chic-style chairs around a farm table. We call it fun; our customers call it affordable. Come by for your own treasure hunt. We are open every day 11 to 5-ish. Credit cards are accepted.

Carousel Antique Center is owned and operated by Karen Squire and Dan Barton. Karen moved to Columbia County in 1984 from Honolulu, Hawaii after an international career in sales and marketing. Many local residents know her from her second career as a successful dog trainer, breeder and handler. Dan was born and raised in Columbia County. After service in the Air Force and a career in banking and business in Eastern New England he returned to Columbia County.

Pre-1911 C. W. Parker Carousel Horse

Parker-sugar-left

Pre-1911 C. W. Parker carousel horse jumper available at Carousel Antique Center:

This dappled cream and tan carousel horse with the sweet face, tossing mane and real hair tail was made in Abilene, KS for use on one of Parker's turn-of-the-century steam riding galleries. It is a rare transitional carving that dates from before Parker's move to Leavenworth in 1911. (Upon moving to Leavenworth, the Colonel began producing very different, wildly over-styled, flamboyant horses.) Not many of these earlier Abilene horses were produced, and even fewer are known to exist -- here is your opportunity to own one! Parker-sugar-detail CONDITION: Needs nothing! Solid and sound, carved wood with a correct hollow body. NO breaks or any "damage" other than a few very minor seam separations expected in these older wooden horses. Fully restored (an older restoration by an acclaimed carousel restoration artist from Maryland) complete with glass eyes (probably original) and a beautiful, real horse hair tail. Stand is included. IMPORTANT: The metal rod on the right hind leg is there to prevent riders from stepping on the leg and breaking it, attempting to ride the horse. The leg is solid and sound.

AUTHENTIC: This horse is individually authenticated as genuine by a nationally recognized carousel authority who lives in Maryland. We'll give you the paperwork at the shop. Additionally, we are including a hard cover copy of "Art of the Carousel" by Charlotte Dinger, where similar horses are shown on page 102.

Carousel Antique Center is located at 611 Warren Street, in Hudson NY. For more information please call (518) 828-9127.
